Can You Even Believe It?

Yes, I am blogging again . . . it has been a super crazy year (won’t bore you with the details) and I have been so neglectful of my poor ole blog (again!) How do you folks make time every day to post? I admire all who do. So there is lots of news here to share.

fadedrooster_smMy annual Thanksgiving giveaway is under way. You can find the details here: Give Thanks! Random drawing will be on Thanksgiving Day and you could win the big ole Rooster Vane hooking pattern on linen (a $90 value!) And as an added bonus, if you share the news on Facebook and one of those you share it with enters, you get an extra entry in the giveaway! So check that out and get your name in the game!

Rooster Vane was offered as my Hook-a-Month project in the fall of last year – it was a huge success – everyone loved this old faded pattern.

More fun news! If you order anything from either of my Etsy shops on Black Friday (11-28-14) you get free shipping! And you will receive an emailed coupon code worth $10 off your next purchase! So click on over and see if there isn’t something you can’t live without!    Folk’n’Fiber Etsy Shop      Vintage on the Ridge Etsy ShopAntique Japan Santa Doll in Great Condition- original Tag and Toy Sack

I have also secured an Etsy Reader, so I can now make sales offline. If you are looking for a vintage item or something for rug hooking that you don’t see on my site or in my Etsy shops, just shoot me an email and I just might have it! I still have tons of vintage goods that are not in my Etsy shop, so chances of me having what you are looking for might be good. You don’t know if you don’t ask, right? I can do your credit card purchase right over the phone, you get emailed a receipt, and I will ship it out! Pretty cool. I love technology!

You know what is the MOST fun? Connecting with, and having conversations with, rug hookers! I recently joined an awesome group of rug hookers in a new Facebook group called Out of Hand Rug Hookers! Fun name isn’t it? It is the best group – everyone posting photos every day and having great conversations about rug hooking. Come on over and ask to join. You will love everyone – lots of familiar names and just good inspiration!

Right now, I have nothing on my frame! Designs keep swirling around in my head when I try to go to sleep at night – my frame is calling . . . but by the time I get everything done during my day, I procrastinate.. “tomorrow”, I say. I think I need a swift kick in the behind! Social media is fun, but it sure eats up your time. However, my Pinterest account stopped working, so that is a time saver! I do miss it though! Always something to fix or do.

And the most exciting news – drum roll… my daughter’s wedding was October 11 in Cincy. So of course, ‘crafty Mom’ (that’s me) made tons and tons of decorations and all the flowers. So I drove down with a loaded car and it was wonderful. I walked Maggie down the aisle to become Mrs. Voshell. I cried buckets of happy tears and welcomed Trace into our family with open arms.coupleSo here are a couple of photos – isn’t she beautiful? Yes, I am biased, but she is just as beautiful on the inside as she is out. So proud of her and also of her hubby (he beat cancer last year, so this was an especially grateful celebration of their new life together!)

Me, trying hard not to cry!

Well, that’s it for now — I hope I still have readers left! So sorry for being away . . . have a joyous Thanksgiving and hug your people!!

Grand Re-Opening, Re-designed & Ready for Prime Time

AND THE WINNERS ARE . . . .

Lauri Troutman for Rug Hooking & Susie Vohlken for Punch Needle!! Congratulations ladies! I have emailed each of you privately.

Thanks to everyone for all your wonderful comments regarding my newly re-designed web site. A few of you took me to heart and shared a couple of things that you didn’t like very much – I appreciate that, and I made some changes per your suggestions. Overall, your comments were very positive and I thank you all for your input. I am only sorry that you could not ALL win. You can however, get into the giveaway action at my Facebook Page every month. If you have not LIKED my FB Page, you’ll find me here.

Remember everyone – I am offering  free shipping on any order from anyone who entered but did not win – through the end of September (I can’t offer free shipping on Frames because those are drop-shipped from the manufacturer in Texas directly to you.) When you place an order between September 20 and September 30, just enter FREESHIP in the coupon box when you check out. You all win!!

—————————————————————————————————————————

Done! What a lovely word . . . I thought I’d never get there. If you haven’t visited my web site recently, you’ll be surprised at the new look and organization. I completely re-designed the site, making it more relevant, easier to navigate, and all around prettier. It has been growing and growing over the years, and like anything that grows, it has a tendency to take on a life of its own – out of control and sort of all over the place (like the weeds in my gardens – which have not gotten the attention that the web site has!) Anyway, stop over and take a look.

So, after all that work and thought (taxing at my age,) it’s finally time to celebrate with a

Grand Re-Opening of the redesigned site!!

First – a big old giveaway! I have put together two giveaway packages – one for rug hooking and one for punch needle, that will be awarded to two lucky, randomly drawn winners on September 20th – one week from today. You do have to work a little bit to get yourself in the running . . . go to Folk ‘n’ Fiber and send me a comment via my Contact page, telling me what you like best about the new web site (if you have a “what I like the least” comment, I am happy to hear those as well.) Tell me if you are a rug hooker or punch needler, so I know which package you’d like to win. That’s all . . . so what does the winner get?

Rug Hooking

  1. A pattern of your choice, on red dot tracer, from this page of my web site: Seasonal Designs (Halloween & Christmas are approaching fast – but you still have time to hook something special for those seasons!)
  2. One yard of red dot tracer fabric – for easy transfer of a future project or two to your favorite backing.
  3. An eco-friendly zippered project bag – measures 15″ x 15.5″ x 8″ – that’s plenty of room for carrying tools, supplies, wool and projects to guild meetings, camps and workshops! Hard flat bottom to support your cutter and all your essentials.
  4. 30 yards of 3-ply 100% wool Paternayan binding yarn in Mustard
  5. A copy of the book Folk Art Friends by Polly Minick and Laurie Simpson – rug hooking and quilting projects, including patterns
  6. Plus some little goodies that I will throw in at the end (surprises are fun!)

Punch Needle

  1. A pattern of your choice, on weavers cloth, from this page of my web site: Seasonal Designs (see above – haha!)
  2. Snip-Eze threads snips
  3. Square tin pin back frame by Twisted Threads to create a pin from your punch needle creation
  4. My tile topped punch needle storage box
  5. A thread assortment (it’s fun to play!) including DMC cotton, Gentle Arts wool, and Old Willow silk threads
  6. Plus some little goodies that I will throw in at the end (yes, punch needle surprises are fun, too!)

And, if you don’t win – you still win. I will offer free shipping on any order from anyone who enters and does not win – through the end of September (I can’t offer free shipping on Frames because those are drop-shipped from the manufacturer in Texas directly to you.) When you place an order between September 20 and September 30, just enter FREESHIP in the coupon box when you check out. See? I really love you all!

Okay – don’t delay! This is a short window to get entered, so do it now! I want you to all have your names in the drawing! I will announce the winners of the give away packages here at the blog on Oct 1, as well as on Facebook! You can’t win if you don’t enter. Why are you still here? GO!

~~Sally~~

PS – I hate to have to mention this, but, it seems I am having intermittent PayPal problems with my cart since the re-design. If you place an order and can’t get it through PayPal, PLEASE email and let me know and I can help you. You do not need a PayPal account to pay for an order via PayPal! I am trying to get this figured out, but in the meantime, please don’t give up if you have trouble. Just email me and I can fix it! Thanks!

Excited Hooker Has Something to Share!

You know I don’t blog really often, but when I have something to share that I think is worthwhile, I show up. So here I am, and that would be me, the excited hooker . . . why? I will be featured in a fairly new magazine called SpoolMag. It’s a  needle arts magazine, and while I am not the best when it comes to wielding a needle, I am wicked with a rug hook. They have not touched on rug hooking yet, so it is a real pleasure to know that I might inspire a ‘younger’ group of stitchers to join the world of rug hooking and we all know what a wonderful world that is, right? I am very excited about this opportunity to spread the love of rug hooking to a whole new readership. The readers of SpoolMag are 20 to 40 years old, and it’s that 20’s group that I am most excited about.

If you are not yet familiar with the magazine, check out their web site: SpoolMag.com

I’ll appear in the Fall issue, which you’ll find on newsstands and in retail shops on September 15th. Check the map of retailers on their site to see if there is a shop near you that carries the magazine. If you have a stitching-related shop, you might consider adding this publication to your racks. The editor, De, is wonderful to work with and I sincerely wish her so much success with this magazine.

My feature will include a design for one of my rugs that I have never offered as a pattern or kit: Spot the Cat. He is a fun, silly cat who wears his spots like pennies on a rug (pun intended.) So watch for the magazine to appear in shops, or subscribe online at their web site. I’d love to know what you think . . .

Before I go, I wanted to tell you that I am doing the monthly giveaway over at the Folk ‘n’ Fiber Facebook page – leave a comment under my post about the giveaway for August and get your name entered to win any of my patterns on red dot tracer AND a beautiful 1/4-yard selection of overdyed wool from LaceyJanePrims.com. If you are selected you can choose the pattern you want from my web site (Hook-a-Month patterns are the only exclusions.)

Oh – one more thing (I told you it was an exciting time . . .) I am completely re-designing my web site. So, don’t be surprised, in the near future, if you visit my site and it looks completely different. It has been around for so long, and gotten pretty busy-looking, and sometimes it’s hard to find what you are looking for, so it needs a facelift (gee, I could have said that about myself, too.) I am working on that big project in between everything else, so it might be a month or two before it’s ready – just letting you know it’s in the works.

If you stopped by to read this – thank you! I know my content gets stale waiting for me to come back and blog, so I am grateful for any of you who take the time to read my posts. Spread the word about SpoolMag and the FB giveaway, will you? And when you need beautiful wool, visit LaceyJanePrims.com – Jo has beautious colors and great prices! You will not be disappointed!

As Always – hook on!

Facebook Wins Again! And So Can YOU . . .

I have been putting it off, but I knew it was inevitable! Social media, like Facebook and Twitter are really important aspects of having an online business. So, I spent some time and created another Facebook Fan page. This one is for Vintage on the Ridge (my Etsy shop for vintage and antiques.) I thought I’d mention it here since I know a lot of my rug hooking blog readers also collect antiques and love vintage things for their homes.

If you would, I sure would love to have some Fans over there . . . click to go and give me a Thumbs Up (LIKE), then leave a comment. Your reward? A chance to win an item of your choice from my Etsy shop’s Under $5 Bucks section. I know it sounds chintzy, but I am destashing in a big way, so most everything in that section is valued at more than $5 – I just need to move it out of here! Free is good, right? Note that the winner will be chosen at the Facebook page, not here on the blog. So LIKE me and leave a comment there to get in the give-away. I’ll pick a winner on Memorial Day!

I’ll be back soon with some rug hooking news, but for now — that’s it! I love give-aways!! Let me know what you think of the new Etsy shop and the new Facebook page. Oh yes, one more thing – I also have a Twitter account for Vintage on the Ridge – follow me there if you like (I still don’t “get” Twitter all that much, but it’s inevitable, too.) Twitter @vintageridge

Have a great day everyone!

Red Dot Tracer Pattern – the Winner Is . . .

Doris Taylor!! Congrats to Doris! We need to email and get your pattern chosen so I can pop it in the mail to you!!

Thanks to everyone for entering . . . remember I do offer patterns on Red Dot at my web site (only some of them right now.) I will be adding that option to many more in the coming weeks. If you see a pattern you would like to have on Red Dot but it’s not available as an option, just email me — it’s not a problem. I think it’s a better choice and value to have it on Red Dot than on paper. If the Paper Pattern is offered, it can be purchased on Red Dot – just let me know!

Hook On, my dear friends – Spring Is Here! (I know this because the squirrels ate all of the tulips that were blooming in my yard! All they left me were the stems! :*}

Sally

Saving Time and Money, and a Bonus!

Yeah, that’s something we are all trying to do – all the time, right? It’s not that easy, but I figure every little bit helps. So to that end, I am offering some of my patterns (and more to come) from my Etsy shop hand-drawn on red dot tracing fabric instead of paper, for the same cost as a paper pattern. I hope it will be more convenient for you, save you a step in the pattern transfer process, and provide you with a pattern that you can transfer and hook more than once. I started by listing some of my smaller patterns (18×24 inches) and I plan to add a few each week, including some of the antiqueAntique Hearts - primitive rug hooking pattern adaptations that I used for the Hook-a-Month projects, which are larger rug patterns. If you would like to win a pattern of your choice drawn on red dot tracer, just leave a comment after this blog post, and then click through and Like my Facebook Fan page. I will randomly choose a winner on April 30 who can go to my website Patterns page and choose their winning pattern. (If you already LIKE my Facebook Fan page, leave a comment there instead.)

If you follow me at Facebook, you may have seen the Etsy Treasury I created, filled with fiber art. I went for Spring colors and textures . . . if you missed it, you can see it HERE. There are some incredible Etsians creating fabulous art with fiber. If you purchase fibers for your creations, try to support indie artists; they have a lot to offer!

Beautiful Wool from Quilting Acres

Fiber Brooch from birchbaykay

Okay, that’s it for today — have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Easter everyone. Be sure to leave a comment and a Facebook LIKE to get your name in the hopper for a free pattern of your choice!

Happy Hooking!!  Sally

Love Affair with Vintage

I had to tell you about the contest we are running over at Vintage on the Ridge. If you like antiques and vintage, you just might want to pop over and check it out – A Love Affair with Vintage. The winner gets a $40 gift certificate to our vintage shop at Etsy! We are trying to build some link love and blog following with this one, as well. Hope you’ll help us out & maybe YOU will win!

Now I gotta get back to my hooking! What are you working on? Leave a comment below and tell us  what’s on your frame right now!

More later . . .  Happy Valentine’s Day All!
