I am a fairly new "hooker". I hate straight lines and a look of perfection. I really like the look of Deanne Fritzpatricks work. Her stitches appear to be going in every different direction. She uses a floor frame (Chipicamp-I think). She is unable to turn her work, so is that how she gets her stitches to look this way. Thank you so much

Hi Sharon - so sorry it took this long to respond to your comments. I had a computer crash and I wa down about a week, then had to reinstall everything - what a mess. Anyway, as far as turning your hooking . . . I always turn my frame, but I imagine with a hoop it is more difficult. It really is easier to hook either left to right (if you are right handed), or top to bottom (my favorite way), coming toward you. To do that, you have to turn your work. So, you have the right idea . . . it's just harder to do with a hoop than a gripper frame. Maybe you can get that sweet daughter of yours to buy you a gripper frame. The Mad Hen in Ohio has some nice box-style gripper frames that are not a ton of money. That's what I get for my beginning students and I still use mine that I bought years ago (I also have a couple of other frames that I use depending on the size of the rug I am working on.) Check out Mad Hen - www.madhen.com and click on Wood Items. Keep on hooking - it will get better and you will only love it more!! Sally

Hi again Sallyoh, Great blog. I do have a ?.Is there a way you can explain how to hook without turning my hoop all the time? I use a regulal quilt hoop.Sorry cant afford the fancy ones, but Iam sure in the olden days they looked alot like the one I use.lol I dont cut my wool either. I have a super daughter that buys me kits. She also got my 1st punchneedle pattern. We had a good laugh at my 1st try until I read your how-to. Much better than what came with my needle. That is why I am hoping you can help.If not I will keep on turning and hooking. Thanx much Sharon
